Turning 65 with style! |
So if you've been following this at all you've seen the photos I've taken primarily with my Google Pixel 4a. Most of the pictures have been adequate. There's been some trailing or very faint images due to the limitations of the equipment. For the most part I've been happy with what I've captured.
For my birthday this year I got myself the Seestar S50. I won't go into how your typical smart scope works, if you need to know check with Google. But the pictures speak for themselves:
M101 the Pinwheel |
Bode's Galaxy
M13 the Great Hercules Cluster |
Leo Triplets
NGC 5128
M100 in Ursa Major |
Pelican Nebula
M27 the Apple Core |
M97 the Owl Nebula |
So this changes things. I am still wowed when making visual observations. I take the 8" with me along with the Seestar because I still love the thrill of the chase. But the smart scope makes documenting these objects more vivid. I don't think I will ever give up on visual astronomy. But it's totally killer to be able to show this stuff off.
NGC 5128 had been very elusive, especially since we moved back to Illinois. But I was determined, since it was an integral part of my Outer Limits Challenge. I got lucky one night in May despite some clouds and smoke from Canadian wildfires. Now I can compile an album with all those objects and post them side by side with the end credits of the show.
Watch this space for that!
